Gingrich stays in the fight

I have to imagine that Romney and the "establishment" has actually pressured Gingrich to stay in the race. That seems to be the only way to avoid a brokered convention. As an aside, Gingrich's promise of $2.50/gallon is absurd. At most, he could remove the fuel tax and lower prices by 18 cents. There is no guaranty that would even be passed on at the pump - the oil companies could simply absorb that savings as profit.

Any new drilling would take years to have an effect, and even then, it would be minimal.

Romney's Most Valuable Player: Gingrich?

As many political pundits are predicting, tonight's primaries may cause Newt to drop out of the race. Romney supporters should be very alarmed. So far, there has been a strong, strong anti-Romney coalition - which has split its vote nearly evenly between Santorum and Newt. This has allowed Romney to win, very narrowly, in places like Ohio and Michigan. Should the vote coalesce behind a candidate (if one were to drop out), Romney would be in for a much more challenging fight.

So, Romney's MVP is Gingrich. Romney and his SuperPac, should be lobbying heavily for Newt to stay in the race. I'd go so far as making serious offers to Gingrich to get the VP nod.

Looking at the poll numbers, they need to hope this MVP doesn't hit the showers too soon.

What's up next?

I've caught the blogging big again. Obviously this is a big year for national politics, but on a more local level we are about to have a recall election against our Governor, Scott Walker. I signed the petition (and explained why). I'll be sure to post more often as Wisconsin Politics heat up.

This week though, I think my first major post back will be to explain my position on when the U.S. should intervene abroad, and when they shouldn't. Return to Locke has been harping on me to pin down my position, and it would be good for me to try and articulate it.
